Blizzard updates Under Development page with patch 4.0.1 details

In another sign that patch 4.0.1 is fast approaching, Community Manager Zarhym has posted to let us know that the Under Development page has been updated with patch 4.0.1 details, "to set the framework for the imminent release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm." Combine this with the imminent end of arena Season 8, and it's looking more and more likely that patch 4.0.1 is nearly here.

The Under Development page update is also worth looking at, as it provides a nice, concise list of what's coming in the final major patch before Cataclysm.

Patch 4.0.1: Cataclysm Systems
As the Cataclysm draws ever closer, patch 4.0.1 will pave the way for the transition into the latest expansion. Players will gain access to a host of new systems features.
  • Classes: revamped talent trees, updated hunter pet system, new druid, hunter, paladin, and warlock resources, new Mastery stat
  • User Interface: improved Spellbook, new Guild display options, updated PvP interface, expanded and enhanced Professions tab
  • Systems: glyph updates including all-new Prime glyphs, new Reforging ability to customize item stats, new PvP and PvE currency system
  • And much more!

Arena season 8 to end as early as Oct. 12

Community Manager Zarhym has posted to announce that arena Season 8 will be ending as early as Oct. 12, two weeks from now. In addition, he has confirmed that Season 9 will not be starting until approximately one week after the release of the Cataclysm expansion.

With this announcement, not only should arena teams get ready to get in those last few wins in hope of gaining end-of-season rewards, but we can all start looking forward to patch 4.0.1. It's not a guarantee, of course, but the end of an arena season is generally accompanied by a new patch -- and with patch 4.0.1 already on many of our computers via the background downloader, this may be as good a time as any. Of course, the post also leaves Blizzard leeway to push the end date back a few weeks if it needs to, as well, but either way, it may be a good idea to start getting prepared.
